This is the story of Waite Phillips, an American petroleum businessman who created a fully integrated operation that combined petroleum producing, refining and marketing-Phillips Petroleum. With headquarters in Tulsa, Oklahoma, he also developed several office complexes and engaged in banking and ranching. Phillips was a philanthropist for both local Tulsa institutions and national causes. In Tulsa he built a 72-room mansion for his residence, which he later donated to the city; it became the Philbrook Museum of Art. He gave 127,000 acres of his favorite ranch in New Mexico to the Boy Scouts of America, together with an office building as part of its endowment. The ranch is now Philmont Scout Ranch, one of the largest youth camps in the world. A clean very presentable copy.

Book
Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. Signed, inscribed and dated on the first blank page inside the front of the book by Elliott W. Phillips, son of Waite Phillips at the request of this bookseller as follows: "11-28-2000/For James Lasseter III/Think you will/enjoy reading this/book as my/father who made/Philmont a reality/for so many/young people/Elliott W. Phillips/". Volume itself has black covers with sharp silver lettering on the spine. There is some wear at the base of the spine and the lower outer edges of the work from sitting on a bookshelf for many years. Elliott Phillips shared with the author, Michael Wallis, a detailed private journal, or diary, written by Waite Phillips himself, listing virtually all of his daily activities during his entire life. This detailed diary and financial records journal, known among family members as the 'Black Book" has been excerpted throughout the text of this book so others may read the actual words of Waite Phillips. The dust jacket is protected in an archival quality cover. Available for immediate shipment, carefully packed in a sturdy box. Signed By the Subject's Son.
